GUITARIST * SINGER * SONGWRITER

BIO

Kyle Pacey's creative synthesis of rhythm and technique is exhilarating. "I am captivated by music that is always changing and like to incorporate a fusion of popular music genres,” says Kyle. " I am a very expressive player and like to push boundaries with my unorthodox style." Kyle is a skilled player with a unique approach to the guitar. His octave work is reminiscent of Wes Montgomery and his full chordal style recalls Freddie Green, Charlie Christian and other noted guitarists. Kyle’s repertoire combines a versatile mix of his own original music with several decades of chart topping favorites. He is a performer who can transform a familiar rock, jazz or R & B standard into a funky and riveting piece.

In the early years Kyle studied with Tony Braden, a celebrated guitarist, teacher and mentor who helped to craft the technique of Kim Mitchell, Ed Bickert, Red Shea and many others. The combination of raw talent and dedicated study helped Pacey to win a number of local and international guitar championships before he was 18 years old. As an emerging musician Kyle lived in L.A. for a number of years where he taught music, did studio work and played for bands including the second generation of The Coasters. During that period Kyle was offered a chance to join the Buddy Rich Band and auditioned for Chicago and a number of other celebrated groups.

Kyle Pacey was the first local musician to play Hamilton Place, where he was featured as the opening act for the Duke E llington Orchestra. Other career highlights include his nomination (as a member of the John Gora Band for the CD - "Bulletproof") for a 2007 Grammy Award. The single (Run Run) Pacey wrote for the CD won 5th place on Chicago's WPNA Radio's Top 10 Countdown of 2007. Pacey has also been featured on guitar and vocals on Young’s top 40 hits Going to the Country and Grapefarm. This acclaimed guitarist, singer and songwriter has worked with Victor Garber and Sugar Shoppe, Robbie Lane and the Disciples, Jaqui and Lindsay.... Kyle has also played with Vedas, The Magic Bubble, Mocha and Spade among other bands. Currently Kyle is a much sought after feature performer at local events, festivals and clubs. He also tours regularly throughout Ontario and the United States with The John Gora Band.

Q: Who are some of your musical influences?
A: I am at easy playing work by a wide range of musicians. I have studied the technique of players as varied as Andrés Segovia, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Phish, Dave Matthews, George Benson, Carlos Santana and George Clinton among others.

Q: How do you find out about interesting new acts and releases?
A: One of my favourite and I think one of the best ways to see a great cross-section of new music is to watch the musical guests featured on late night talk shows. Daily, Letterman, Kimmel, Leno, Furgeson and others offer some of the best venues for new releases by emerging and established musicians.

Q: What do you think about the current music scene?
A: It's hard to keep up on everything that's going on because there are so many venues for new artists, independent labels and with the Internet thrown into the mix artists have can now get out there in so many new and different ways.

Q: Who are some of the artists that you are listening to these days?
A: I have been listening to Raul De Luca, Amos Lee, Tom Waits, Donald Fegan, Jack Johnson...

With a new CD in the works and several studio projects for other artists on the go Kyle continues to evolve as a musician. His lyrics are strongly influenced by his interest in a variety (pop, funk, R&B, rock...) of musical genres and an interest in metaphysics and the new thought movement.
